Minimally Invasive Procedures

Dr. Julia Kang offers

Range of Minimally Invasive Procedures

These procedures help rejuvenate the whole face, including the eyelids. Over time, the loss of facial bone, fat, collagen, and elasticity can lead to volume loss and an aged appearance due to the formation of wrinkles, hollows, and folds. These wrinkles and folds can create a facial expression that is not truly representative of how we feel on the inside. Dr. Kang wants to help you look and feel your best with a customized approach. During your consultation, Dr.Kang will address your cosmetic concerns and provide a bespoke treatment plan based on your individual needs. These minimally invasive treatments can sometimes be combined with surgical procedures for the best possible aesthetic outcome.

Neurotoxin (Botox®, Xeomin®, Daxxify ®)

Injection with botulinum toxin is a minimally invasive treatment that can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by temporarily relaxing or weakening muscles. These are often called “dynamic wrinkles,” as they are lines that area created from movement of the face. Static wrinkles, or lines that are present at rest, are often deeply etched into the skin and may soften or improve with botulinumtoxin, but oftentimes will not completely resolve. Botulinum toxin is incredibly versatile and can help improve with the following: crows feet (wrinkles around the eyes), jelly rolls (muscle roll below the lower eyelid), forehead lines, glabellar lines (the 11’s between the eyebrows), temporal brow lift, lip lift, Nefertiti lift (neck or platysmal bands). Botulinum toxin injections can also help with TMJ (temporomandibular joint) or masseter hypertrophy (with facial slimming effect), hyperhidrosis (excessive armpit sweating) and hemifacial spasms/blepharospasm. The exact amount required will depend on the treatment area and your individual needs. As an experienced specialist, Dr. Kang always aims for the most natural appearance.

Filler-2-mod

Dermal Fillers (Juvéderm®, Restylane®, RHA®)

Dermal fillers made of hyaluronic acid, a substance that naturally occurs on the human body, instantly can provide volume and help smooth out deep creases and folds. Filler can be injected in the tear trough or under eye hollows, superior sulcus, cheeks, chin, jawline, perioral lines, marionette lines, nasolabial folds, temples and lips. Different fillers may be used for different parts of the face, as they vary in weight and density. For example, softer fillers would be used in the lips, whereas firmer formulations would be used to help build definition volume in the chin or jawline. Your body will naturally metabolize the filler over time but typically can last on average 6-18 months or longer, and they can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if needed. Dr. Kang believes that people often only notice poorly placed or over-injected filler, whereas the correct amount and proper placement can lead a very natural and refreshed appearance. Dermal filler treatments are customized to each individual and may be combined with other surgical or non-surgical procedures. During your consultation, Dr. Kang determine which dermal filler is best for you to give you your desired results.

Morpheus8

Morpheus8 by InMode is a skin rejuvenation procedure that combines microneedling with radio frequency technology to re-shape the tissue under the skin and stimulate collagen production. Morpheus8 can effectively produce smoother, more youthful, and tighter skin without damaging surrounding areas to achieve beautiful and satisfying results. The needles penetrate the skin at varying depths to deliver radio frequency energy at the right depth for maximum results. The combination of the tiny punctures and RF energy helps promote collagen and elastin production, while tightening the skin fibers and contouring fat at the same time. This powerful combination works to reduce wrinkles, skin laxity and overall improve tone and texture.

Morpheus8 can also improve dry eye by stimulating the Meibomian or oil gland along the eyelid. The treatment involves placing a small applicator on the eyelid to deliver RF energy to the glands. This energy heats the glands, liquefying the hardened oil and unclogging them to restore their proper function.

Morpheus8 can treat any area of the body that would benefit from surface contouring and tightening. These benefits may include: (individual results may vary)

  • Improving wrinkles and lines of the face/periorbital area
  • Tighten loose skin of the face, neck and abdomen
  • Help with skin discoloration including areas affected by sun damage
  • Improve skin texture including crepey skin
  • Reduce acne and help with acne and post-operative scars
  • Improve overall health of the skin
  • Improved dry eye by stimulation of the Meibomian glands

The procedure is performed under topical numbing cream which is left on for at least 1 hour prior to the procedure. ProNox™ can also be used to help with pain control. It is important to note that while improvements may be noted after the first 4 weeks, multiple sessions may be required for optimal results. During your initial consultation, Julia Kang will provide you with the best recommendations in deciding whether Morpheus8 is the right treatment for you.

  • Topical retinoid therapy should be discontinued 1-2 weeks prior to treatment
  • For Fitzpatrick skin types IV-VI, may need to pre-treat with topical hydroquinone for 4-6 weeks
  • Avoid any prolonged exposure to the sun at least 2 weeks prior, if you must be in the sun use a zinc oxide sunscreen of at least SPF 30.
  • If you have a history of cold sores, please notify your provider to get prescription for an antiviral
  • Avoid taking anticoagulants (aspirin, motrin, ibuprofen, naproxen) for one week, if your medical condition allows it.
  • Arrive to your appointment with clean skin. There should be no lotion, sunscreen, makeup, perfume, powder, bath or shower oil present on the skin to be treated. You will be given the opportunity to remove your make-up in the event this was not possible.
  • Immediately after your treatment most patients will experience a clinical endpoint of erythema (redness) for 1-3 days, however for more aggressive treatments this may last longer. Slight to moderate edema (swelling) and mild to moderate sunburn sensation are also common post treatment and may last 1-3 days. Skin may crust and peel for 2-7 days depending on the treatment setting.
  • Skin may feel warm and tighter than usual
  • Skin may crust and peel for 3-7 days after treatment
  • Redness and swelling may last for 3-4 days
  • Avoid putting anything on your skin for the first 48 hours (this includes cleanser, moisturizer or spf). Keep the face covered with a wide-brimmed hat or visor if you have to go outdoors.
  • Makeup may not be worn for 48 hours after the procedure. If there are no areas with active oozing and warm redness, makeup may be applied after this time.
  • You may resume the use of your gentle cleanser and moisturizer 2-3 days after, but avoid any retinoids or active acids (including AHA/BHA). Retinoids, AHA/BHA and hydroquinone may be resumed 1 week after
  • There are no restrictions on bathing except to treat the skin gently, avoid scrubbing or trauma to the treated areas, as if you had a sunburn.
  • Avoid sun exposure to reduce the chance of hyperpigmentation (darker pigmentation).
  • The use of zinc oxide sunblock spf 30+++ at all times after 48 hours.
  • Multiple treatments over a period of several months may be required to achieve the desired response. The time for skin cell turnover is 28 days so most people will begin to see increased results after this time.

Lumecca IPL

The Lumecca IPL system by InMode is a rejuvenating, non-invasive treatment that provides a means of achieving improved skin complexion and reduced signs of aging. Using intense pulsed light (IPL) technology, the Lumecca laser targets pigment irregularities and broken capillaries beneath the skin’s surface to restore even tone and color.

The Lumecca system works by directly targeting the pigment irregularities and broken capillaries beneath the skin surface through intense pulsed light (IPL) technology. The device’s light is absorbed by these pigments, and the precise delivery ensures it only breaks up the targeted cells without damaging surrounding tissue. This leaves your face looking more even-toned and youthful while improving your overall complexion.

The Lumecca system is a safe, non-invasive treatment that provides notable skin rejuvenation without the risk or commitment of surgery. In fact, it allows for treating pigment concerns that no existing surgery could address. Other key benefits include:

  • Even and smooth skin tone and texture
  • Comfortable treatment sessions
  • Higher peak energy for enhanced outcomes
  • Improved collagen production for firmer, more youthful skin
  • Reduced signs of sun damage
  • Reliable treatment for rosacea
  • Works with Fitzpatrick skin types I-IV

The procedure can be performed safely in-office with minimal downtime. Topical anesthesia is not usually necessary as patients rarely report any pain, however we do offer ProNox™ to help ease any discomfort. During your initial consultation, Dr. Kang will explore your treatment options and help you decide whether Lumecca-IPL is the right treatment for you.

Dry Eye/Blepharitis Treatment - Envision

Envision by InMode is the new, revolutionary in-office technology offering procedures for the treatment of meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) and the symptoms of dry eye. It may also be used to help treat blepharitis and chalazions or hordeolums. This breakthrough technology was released by InMode, the same makers of the Morpheus8 and has been proven to treat the underlying cause of dry eye disease to provide long-term results. Envision dry eye care is a comprehensive approach to treating chronic dry eye and blepharitis that involves either a Forma-I or Lumecca-I treatment, or both. This allows for maximum relief with minimal downtime, as patients can achieve significant improvement in tear production and ocular comfort after completing a series of quick and comfortable treatment sessions. Additionally, each procedure provides an added benefit of improving signs of aging in the eyelids, such as reducing wrinkles or skin laxity.

Lumecca IPL
IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light, a type of therapy with a wide range of clinical and cosmetic uses. For dry eyes, it focuses on treating the Meibomian glands by heating them and turning any solidified oils or blockages in them back into liquids. At the same time, the treatment helps eliminate any bacteria that could be causing inflammation of the eyelids and its glands. (For more information, look under “Lumecca-IPL”)

Forma-I
Forma-I addresses the symptoms of dry eye disease (DED) caused by Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD) by delivering targeted bipolar radio frequency energy to the periorbital area including the upper and lower eyelids. By doing so, Forma-I can relieve inflammation of the meibomian glands and improve eye irritation. The bipolar RF energy allows for an even, uniform heating of the eyelids, which melts blockage in the oil glands. This helps promote flow in the oil glands and return healthy tear formation to the eyes. This in-office procedure is quick and easy, and anesthesia or sedation is not required. Patients often describe the sensation as similar to receiving a hot stone massage on the eyelids.

  • Arrive to your appointment with clean skin. There should be no lotion, sunscreen, makeup, perfume, powder, bath or shower oil present on the skin to be treated. You will be given the opportunity to remove your make-up in the event this was not possible.
  • Do NOT wear false eyelashes or eyelash extensions if receiving dry eye treatment
  • Mild redness, warmth or swelling can sometimes be experienced immediately after the procedure, but usually subside after a few hours
  • Patients can see results within a few days of treatment, with no significant downtime or discomfort associated with the procedure.
  • Avoid very hot water to the face for 2 days after the treatment.
  • Avoid scrubbing, pinching and etc., of the treated area.
  • Moisturizer and makeup may be applied to the skin surface immediately post-treatment.
